Description
During the process of making cutting boards, the underlying wood sometimes has surprises contained within and the finished product is not a perfect cutting board.
These “defective” boards are by no means useless they usually require time to get the most out of the boards.
The types of defects include the following:
- Cracks
- Soft Pith area (middle of tree)
- Knots
- Holes
- Bug Holes
- Bark edge
- too thin (20mm and below)
Each board is still usable but may need work such as:
- making the board narrower (cutting the edge off)
- adding resin to board to fill in defect knot or holes
- adding glue to a section
- filling with wood filler
- using the top good side and adding feet on defect side
These boards require time which we are not able to spend on each board – so we would like to recover the wood cost and the time invested in these boards.
When ordering these boards – add a note which defect type you would prefer – but be aware we may not have enough of the type you request and will top up with the next closest – best to say what you would like to use them for and we can try accommodate.
We are not able to take photos for selection as it is not practical to keep photos of every item – both sides especially when new boards are added each week.
Sizes: they range from 40cm x 25cm up to 50cm x 30cm – we also cannot guarantee the sizes you will receive – but can add in your order notes for the option(s) you prefer.
Boards are mostly Kiaat but a few are Teak
